First Week of May Round-Up
Goodbye April, Hello May
Is it just me or did April just disappear? I know it’s shorter than other months, but not short enough to feel like it just flew by. It's hard to believe it's already May, but here we are. With a new month comes a new edition of the 500 Mile Email Weekly Round-Up Newsletter. We've got some great stories to share with you this week, including a couple submitted by our readers. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let's get started!

This Week’s Stories
Only three stories this week. One short, one medium, and one very long. All worth the read.
Putting The Cart Before The Bee 🐝 - Another Skyrim bug. Literally. Elder Scrolls and similar games get a bad rap for being really buggy, but as this thread explains, building these kind of game engines is really hard.
Can't stream rock music, only classical 🎶 - As someone who loves all kind of music, I’d find this incredibly frustrating. Imagine going to a kids birthday party, and the parents are just playing classical music because they can’t stream anything else.
The curious case of the disappearing Polish S ⌨️ - This is a really long read, but really worth it. It’s both a tech history lesson, and a debugging story. The way this bug cascades through the ages is truly impressive.

I don’t think there’s a day that goes by that I don’t open Notion. I use it for journaling, for tracking my projects, and even for my video game backlog.

See You Next Week
I finally started a personal project using Go, and I’m kicking myself for not learning this language earlier. I’m sure everyone’s story is similar when they start. Your first couple days you’re just annoyed every time Go yells at you. Then it clicks and you start to wonder why all languages don’t work this way.
If you have a great story or just want to drop a message my way, you can respond to this email, or send me an email at submissions@500mile.email.
Bye! 👋
